Principal Grid Connection Engineer
Join Grid-Link as Principal Grid Engineer: own feasibility to commissioning, mentor engineers, and steer AEMO/TNSP engagements in Australia’s energy transition.
At Grid-Link, we’re all about making the energy transition actually happen, not just talking about it.
We’re a specialist engineering consultancy that support the integration of energy assets into the grid. Our sweet spot is combining deep technical expertise in power systems, modelling and compliance with real, hands-on experience in Design, Grid Connection, HV testing, commissioning, and project delivery.
Our goal is simple: enable a more sustainable, carbon-free energy future.
About the opportunity
This is a genuine principal-level position, not a re-badged senior role. You'll act as Grid-Link's technical authority across all connection workstreams, leading complex projects from feasibility through to commissioning while building strong relationships with AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs, and OEMs.
You'll also have real influence over how Grid-Link grows: contributing to commercial development, refining internal modelling standards, and mentoring engineers across all levels.
What you'll be doing
Lead and approve RMS and EMT model development to AEMO standards
Oversee GPS compliance planning, testing, and validation
Serve as Grid-Link's technical escalation point for power systems analysis
Review and sign off on R1/R2 deliverables and GPS packages
Lead major grid connection projects end-to-end
Lead negotiations with AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs, and OEMs
Contribute to proposals, scoping, and commercial development
Mentor senior, intermediate, and graduate engineers
Drive continuous improvement of internal modelling standards and QA/QC processes
What you'll bring
Essential:
Electrical Engineering degree (post-grad in Power Systems preferred)
Engineers Australia membership and CPeng
10+ years in grid connection engineering within the NEM
Expert knowledge of AEMO requirements and generator performance standards
High proficiency in PSS®E, PSCAD, and PowerFactory
Demonstrated experience leading GPS development and AEMO/TNSP negotiations
Proven ability to lead teams across multiple concurrent projects
Valued:
Experience in technical advisory for developers, OEMs, network businesses, or investors
Understanding of commercial drivers in renewable energy development
Why Grid-Link?
You’ll work with people who really know their stuff and are happy to share it
Projects are genuinely interesting, not cookie-cutter
You’ll get exposure across the full project lifecycle, not just one slice
A culture that values balance, not burnout
Support for Engineers Australia membership
Health and social initiatives
Melbourne CBD office
Competitive salary
If you enjoy solving real engineering problems, want to work on projects that actually matter, and like the idea of being involved from early design through to energisation, this is a pretty good place to do it.
