Senior SCADA Engineer
Join Grid-Link as Senior SCADA Engineer: lead SCADA design, PLC/RTU programming, and commissioning for HV renewables. Melbourne-based, occasional travel; help shape Australia’s grid.
At Grid-Link, we’re all about making the energy transition actually happen, not just talking about it.
We’re a specialist engineering consultancy that specialises in delivering comprehensive solutions for integrating energy assets into the grid. Our sweet spot is combining deep technical expertise in power systems, modelling and compliance with real, hands-on experience in Design, Grid Connection, HV testing, commissioning, and project delivery.
In short, we help get energy projects connected, energised, and moving faster and with less risk.
Our goal is simple: enable a more sustainable, carbon-free energy future.
We're looking for a Senior SCADA Engineer to support clients across every phase of their projects, from concept design through to commissioning and ongoing operations.
About the opportunity
This is a hands-on senior role with real breadth. You'll be involved in concept and detailed design, technical reviews, project delivery, PLC and RTU programming, commissioning support, and everything in between. You'll work across a diverse mix of projects in the renewable energy and power sector, engaging directly with clients and delivery teams throughout.
Based in Melbourne with travel to site, client offices, and industry conferences as required.
What you'll be doing
Prepare SCADA functional design specifications, configuration, and interface requirements
Review and develop technical specifications, bill of materials, and design documentation for compliance with relevant standards
Lead safety in design and constructability reviews
Lead SCADA delivery projects end-to-end, including tendering and procurement support
Carry out PLC and RTU programming, communications design, SCADA configuration, database management, and integration activities
Provide technical guidance to delivery teams during construction
Support commissioning and compliance activities
Manage SCADA and controls activities to meet project timelines and budgets
What you'll bring
Essential:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
5+ years of experience in the design and implementation of SCADA and control systems for HV electrical installations
Strong knowledge of HV energy networks, power transmission and distribution systems, and protection and control systems in substations
Proven technical capability in PLC and RTU programming and SCADA software configuration
Experience with industrial protocols including DNP3, Modbus, and TCP equivalents
Strong knowledge of technical documentation for SCADA, network, process control, and data exchange installations
Understanding of relevant Australian codes, regulations, and standards for renewable energy projects
Registration with Engineers Australia, plus RPEV and RPEQ (or eligibility to obtain)
Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
Why Grid-Link?
You’ll work with people who really know their stuff and are happy to share it
Projects are genuinely interesting, not cookie-cutter
You’ll get exposure across the full project lifecycle, not just one slice
A culture that values balance, not burnout
Support for Engineers Australia membership
Health and social initiatives
Melbourne CBD office
Competitive salary
If you enjoy solving real engineering problems, want to work on projects that actually matter, and like the idea of being involved from early design through to energisation, this is a pretty good place to do it.
